HARLAN HIGH SCHOOL

The recordings below were recorded at the Tobin Center, during the 2019 YOSA Invitational. Under the direction of Daniel Shiu, this concert was held in only the second year of existence for the school. Students in his program quickly displayed their success through the school dedication cermony, UIL Concert and Sightreading, and application based programs through the San Antonio Symphony and YOSA.

Folks Middle School Dedication Cermony

“For Good” from the hit Broadway Musical by Stephen Schwartz, “Wicked”

Arranged and Conducted by Daniel Shiu

For the school ceremony, we were asked to perform a favorite tune of the school namesake. I obtained the Copyright to arrange a piece of music from the Broadway show “Wicked” in a pedagogically appropriate setting for middle school Band, Choir, and Orchestra.

I then collaborated with the Band and Choir Directors to create a schedule of rehearsals, set expectations and musical goals for each rehearsal, and conducted the performance at the ceremony.
